Of all the teas that come from the Camellia sinensis plant, green tea has never been my first choice. So when creating Alpine Joe, I wanted to create a green tea blend I would genuinely enjoy drinking, while capturing what I love about the Alps: freshness, energy and that uplifting feeling of being in the mountains.
The blend brings together apple, green tea, lemon zest and peppermint. Apple adds a crisp fruitiness, while peppermint and lemon zest bring a bright, refreshing freshness that reminds me of mountain air. Blueberry flowers scattered through the blend add a little touch of the Alpine meadow.
The inspiration for Alpine Joe came from one of the most charming residents of the Swiss mountains: the marmot.
After spending the winter tucked away underground, marmots emerge in spring as the Alpine landscape comes back to life. I imagined a sleepy marmot waking from its long hibernation, stepping out into the fresh mountain air and munching its way through the green herbs and plants of an Alpine meadow.
